Board of Aldermen

There are 6 elected Aldermen representing 3 Wards. Each ward has 2 Aldermen with staggered terms. Aldermen adopt or reject resolutions and ordinances.

The Mayor is elected for 2 year terms and presides over the Board of Aldermen. The Mayor cannot vote on resolutions or ordinances except to break a tie.  The Aldermen meet monthly on the third Tuesday at 7:00pm in City Hall. See the calendar for specific dates and times.

Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment is a five member panel appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Aldermen.  This Board meets to interpret the City regulations when there is a dispute; hear and decide on appeals in the case of alleged errors concerning decisions made by the Zoning Administration in the enforcement of the regulations; hear and decide on applications in the case of use and area variances; hear and decide upon applications for legal non-conforming use or area certificates; undertake other responsibilities required by the Board of Aldermen.

The board meets in City Hall on the fourth Tuesday of each month as needed.  See the calendar for specific dates and times.
